Can I send a Microsoft Word Document For Printing? TOP

You can send a document created in Microsoft Word as a PDF.  We suggest that you only create a single color document in word. Forms and one color business cards are acceptable to create in word. You will need to convert the Word Document to a PDF file to send for printing.  Creating a PDF can be fast and simple with the proper software.

How To Create A PDF:
Adobe Acrobat Reader is used on most computers today to read PDF files.  To create a PDF file you need to have a PDF creator software. The most popular PDF creator is Adobe
Acrobat.  We suggest a freeware PDF creator WINPDF.

WINPDF can be found at http://www.pdfdesk.com/winpdf.html

Converting files to CMYK TOP

Converting files to CMYK.
(CYAN, MAGENTA, YELLOW, BLACK)

Here is a list of several common programs with instructions on how to make sure you are working in the CMYK color space. If your program or version is not listed here, don't worry. Most of these instructions will apply to all versions of a program. If at any time you need further help, please call us for assistance. We are happy to talk you through the steps needed to get your document into the CMYK color space.

Microsoft Publisher
Microsoft Publisher defaults to RGB. It is easy to convert everything to a CMYK color space or to start a new document using the CMYK color space.

Use the following menu options: Tools/Commercial Printing Tools/ Color Printing and select Process colors (CMYK). Please note that all images incorporated into a layout need to be linked and not embedded in order to maintain the CMYK color space within the image. Using the following menu options does this: Tools/Commercial Printing Tools/Graphics Manager and highlight the embedded image. Click Link and click Browse to locate the original file and link to it. You will then need to send both the images and the layout file to us for printing.

Adobe Photoshop
If the file already exists select the following menu options: Image/Mode/CMYK When starting a new file select CMYK for the mode before clicking OK.

Corel Draw
Select each object you want to convert. Select the Fill tool and click Fill Color Dialog. Make sure the Color model is CMYK. For each object with an outline: Select the Outline tool and click the Outline Color Dialog. Make sure the Color model is CMYK.

Adobe Illustrator
Use the following menu options. For an existing file select Edit/Select All and then Filter/Colors/Convert to CMYK. For a new file, select File/New and select CMYK color for the Color Mode.

Quark Express
Use the following menu options: Edit/Edit Colors/Show Colors in Use/Highlight Color and click Edit. Change model to CMYK and deselect Spot color. Remember to send us your layout and linked images!

Adobe InDesign
Use the following menu options: Window/Swatches and Window/Color. Double click color in Swatches Change color mode to CMYK and color type to Process. Any colors created in the document that are not in the Swatches palette, need to be changed to the CMYK color space. Select each object you want to convert and make sure the Color palette reflects the CMYK percentages. Click top right arrow in the palette to change to CMYK if necessary. Remember to send us your layout and linked images!

Adobe Pagemaker
Use the following menu options: Window/Show Colors. Double click "colors" in palette and select Model to be CMYK and Type to be Process. Please be advised that Pagemaker does not successfully represent CMYK color on the monitor.

The Logo Creator
When using the logo creator to generate your files to be printed. Inform us of the version number and that your file was generated from the logo creator.  We will make sure the file has been successfully converted to CMYK.

What are your bleed requirements? TOP
We require a minimum of 1/16” and preferably 1/8” additional image for bleed area.

If I provide a print out from my own printer, will you match it? TOP
Due to the wide variances in output devices including inkjet and laser printers (which are generally RGB based), we cannot match the colors to your output. Even previously printed pieces produced from another file or another commercial printer can vary.   We suggest that you receive a proof of your file from one of our color calibrated proofing systems. You can then compare your printout to the proof for the closest comparison to end results. Keep in mind however that paper finishes and hues can have an effect on color that our proof cannot simulate.

What about PMS colors? TOP
Our presses run CMYK. A PMS color will be derived from the CMYK Process. A spot color PMS is possible in addition to the CMYK ink process.  A PMS number must be supplied for the color to be matched.  A PMS color being printed in CYMK Process cannot be guarrenteed to match 100%.

What type of proof will I receive? TOP
For all orders that we are creating artwork for you will receive an online PDF proof.  We request that you review this proof and make any corrections or changes as well as check for all errors including spelling.   If you request a printed proof, your proof will be sent to you and changes will be made and included with the original proof that is to be sent back to us.

Once I've received my proof, what next? TOP
Once you receive your proof, you will need to review and contact us regarding any changes or corrections that may be needed.  Once you approve the proof for production you have agreed that the proof is correct and you have checked for all errors including speiiling.
